I. SCOPE
This policy affirms the membership of the University Faculty. The following is excerpted
from the University of Pittsburgh BYLAWS. (See Appendix A.)
II. POLICY
The membership of the University Faculty shall consist of such officers of the Corporation
or other persons as may be designated by the President, and all members of the teaching
staff with positions described below:
Full- and Part-Time, Tenured or Tenure-Stream
- Instructors
- Assistant Professors
- Associate Professors
- Professors
The membership of the Faculty of each degree-recommending unit shall consist of the
President, the Provost and the appropriate Vice President, the Dean, and all other persons
in the unit with positions described above, and those full-time persons with positions
described below:
Full-Time Non-Tenure Stream
- Professors
- Associate Professors
- Assistant Professors
- Instructors
- Appointments with the following prefixes to the above ranks: visiting, research, adjunct,
clinical or field
- Senior lecturers
- Lecturers
- Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, or Instructors of Clinical
(Subject, e.g., Medicine).
