I. SCOPE
This policy affirms the rights of the University and the faculty member in cases of termination
of appointment due to financial exigency. The following is excerpted from the University of
Pittsburgh BYLAWS. (See Appendix A.)
II. POLICY
The Board of Trustees may upon due notice, terminate the service of any member of the
Faculty because of a financial exigency that is demonstrably bona fide, subject to the
right to a hearing as provided in Article II, Section IIID of the University BYLAWS. See
Policy 02-02-07, Termination of Appointment for Cause, and Procedure 02-02-10, Faculty
Reviews and Appeals.
