SUBJECT: Role of Faculty in School and Regional Campus Governance

I. SCOPE
This policy establishes the role of faculty members in school and regional campus
governance.
II. POLICY
Faculty members of the University, drawing on their professional expertise and knowledge
gained by advanced study in a particular discipline, as well as on their knowledge of the
traditions and mission of their department, school, campus and University as a whole,
have the responsibility for:
- Course Content
- Teaching methods
- Campus, school or department curriculum
- Grading
- Academic Advising
- Establishment of degree requirements
- Research
- Appointment, retention and supervision of Teaching Assistants, Teaching Fellows,
Graduate Student Assistants, and Graduate Student Researchers
The tasks described herein are accomplished by:
- Individual faculty members through their research and instruction in the laboratory
and classroom
- Through participation of faculty in various school-wide bodies and/or various faculty
committees
- Faculty meetings and discussions with the respective department chairperson
- Service on department or University committees
