Frequently Asked Questions
What if my personal property
is stolen while I am at work?
Personal property you may have on campus is not insured by the University
- please check your homeowner's or tenant's policy to find out if your personal
items are covered while they are at the University.
What if my research data and samples are lost or damaged in a fire, flood,
and/or refrigerators and freezer failures?
The University's blanket property insurance policy provides coverage for
the replacement of physical assets and equipment lost or damaged of a covered
loss. The cost of reproducing the experiment, biological samples or the
cost of gathering, assembling information or data for such reproduction
is not covered by insurance.
If I use my personal vehicle for University business, does the University
provide any insurance if my vehicle is damaged?
Use of personal vehicles for University business is discouraged because
the University's automobile insurance program does not provide physical
damage (collision or comprehensive) coverage for any damage sustained to
an employees' personal vehicle. The employee is also responsible for any
deductible and premium increase as a result of any accident.
When using a personal vehicle on University business, the owner of the
vehicle must carry automobile liability insurance. The owner's automobile
liability insurance coverage is primary coverage. The University's automobile
liability insurance policy provides excess coverage only.
