Ways To Avoid Identity Theft

STEPS TO HELP PROTECT YOURSELF:

1. Never give out confidential information over the phone or in an e-mail.

2. Shred documents containing confidential information.

3. Log out or turn off your workstation when it is not in use.

4. Use strong passwords at least eight characters long that have numbers and special characters (like:$, %, &).

5. Change your passwords frequently.

6. Run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy anti-spyware software daily, available free at software.pitt.edu.
